Next Stop Everywhere: Episode 8!

Hello everyone!  Once again, I must apologize for posting this late.  I spent most of the week getting ready for Con on the Cob (in Hudson, Ohio) this weekend!

This time out, we give our thoughts on "Mummy on the Orient Express," the eighth episode from Doctor Who Series Eight, including things like Agatha Christie, the running theme of soldiers and war, sentient computer acronyms, Clara's inconsistent behavior, the series Castle, the polarizing Twelfth Doctor, Queen's song "Don't Stop Me Now," Doctor Who haters hating, our popular Reverse the Polarity segment, listener email, the revival of Twin Peaks, and more!
As always, you can find them on iTunes and  Stitcher. If MP3s  are more your thing, you can download them here. :) Also be sure to give them a Like on Facebook and a follow on Twitter!

In case you missed it, the Next Stop Everywhere Podcast has a new episode available!

From Charles Skaggs:
"Now, I imagine you have many questions.  Fire away, I won't answer any of them."

Despite some rather annoying audio quality issues, Jesse Jackson and I are back with another episode of Next Stop Everywhere: The Doctor Who Podcast.

This time out, we give our thoughts on "The Caretaker," the sixth episode from Doctor Who Series Eight, including things like Clara juggling her life in time and space with the Doctor and her teaching at Coal Hill School on Earth with her boyfriend Danny Pink, the first meeting between the Doctor and Danny, why Alex Kingston needs to return as River Song, why people travel with the Doctor when it's so obviously dangerous, what happened to the house that was next to the barn in "The Day of the Doctor," our popular Reverse the Polarity segment and more!
You can find them on iTunes and  Stitcher. If MP3s  are more your thing, you can download them here. :) Also be sure to give them a Like on Facebook and a follow on Twitter!

Also up is a new poll for The Caretaker-be sure to put in your vote! :)

The Caretaker at Grandview!

Join us tonight at 9 for The Caretaker at the Grandview Theatre!

Also, Isa will be on hand with her Tumblr project!  From Isa:
Heads-up: as some of you may know, I am working on part of a project with Tumblr. The project is a scrapbook that will be sent to Peter Capaldi for Christmas. My contribution is a copy of the poster used at the Grandview Theatre for the S8 premiere, with messages for Capaldi on it from all of us. A group project, if you will.
If you would like to write a message to Capaldi on the poster, or a word or two about what Doctor Who means to you, the poster will be at the Grandview this Saturday during the show.
This will be the LAST weekend it will be at the Grandview. If you'd like to write something but can't make it to the show at the Grandview, contact me privately or post on the Facebook page and we can make other arrangements.
 Hope to see you there!

Of Polls and Podcasts...

Hello everyone!

You may have noticed that I created polls to give fans a chance to rate the latest episodes of Doctor Who.  I am going to attempt to do this with every new episode (although I missed 2 week's worth).  I included a poll for Listen in addition to Time Heist. Please bear with me, and many thanks to those who have voted!

Next, I would like to mention a new podcast featuring our very own Charles and Jesse! Next Stop Everywhere will include episode recaps, news, analysis, and predictions about Doctor Who will be discussed on this weekly podcast.

They have just released their 5th episode! Charles and Jesse discuss the fifth episode of the 8th series: Time Heist.
You can find them on iTunes, Facebook, or at Next Stop Everywhere. Give them a listen and be sure to rate and review their podcasts-it helps others find them! :)

A Scrapbook for Capaldi

Hi everyone!  Isa would like our help with a new project!  Here are the details from Isa herself:
Working on a project and I need input from as many people as possible.
One of my followers on Tumblr is creating a scrapbook that she is going to send to Capaldi for Christmas. She has asked for contributions from Whovians all over.
My submission is going to be a copy of the poster that was up at the Grandview for the premiere. I'd like for people to write messages on it: the front would be one or two words about what Doctor Who means to you, and the back would have short messages from fans directly to Capaldi.
I will have the poster with me at the next two episodes at the Grandview for people to write their messages and words on.
 Great idea, Isa!

If you would like to take part, arrive a little early (or stay a little late) so you have time to add your thoughts to the poster.  Thank you!

General Info-DWC Activites

First I must apologize for not responding to the comment made in my last post until just now. Blogger used to notify me by email that I had comments on my blog post-and it failed to do so.  I just now noticed it as I was getting ready to write another post.

The commenter asked if they needed to be a part of the Yahoo Group to help with the Grandview cleaning.  Of course not!  We welcome all Doctor Who fans. Your comment came up as anonymous, so whoever you are, I hope you were able to come and help out!

This is a public blog-if events are posted here, any Doctor Who fan can participate-we encourage you to become a member of either the Yahoo Group or the Facebook group, but it is not a requirement. (it does make communication easier, though!) ;)

I hope this information was helpful!

One Day!

One day until Peter Capaldi's debut as Twelve!!  Are you as excited as I am? :-D

Just a few things:

Doctor Who was mentioned on NPR this morning: check it out!

BBC America's Doctor Who takeover continues with a Doctor Who marathon-they are currently into season 6.

At 9 pm tonight debuts a new special: Doctor Who: Earth Conquest  This special follows Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on Doctor Who: World Tour, which sees them visiting seven cities across five continents in 12 days to publicize the upcoming season.  Woo!  Be sure to check it out-it *may* feature a project I have been a part of for a couple of years now, the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra. (no, I wasn't interviewed-but it's still exciting!) :-D

TOMORROW!  Are you ready?  Don't forget we will be meeting at the Grandview Theatre to help get ready for the premiere event tomorrow night, starting at 10 am.

The show starts at 8, but be sure to get there early!  Costumes are encouraged! (Be sure to take pictures-I'd love to share some of them on this blog!)

Want to see Doctor Who on the big screen again?  Fathom Events will be showing Deep Breath in theaters around the country Monday, August 25th.  Click here  for details! :)

10:40 pm: The Waters of Mars

Thursday starts with The End of Time at midnight, with a repeat at 3 am.  After a brief break in the morning for news from the BBC, the takeover continues at 8am with the special Doctor Who: Tales from the TARDIS, followed by a series 5 marathon.  Thursday wraps up at 11pm with An Adventure in Space and Time.

If you have the tvtag app, be sure to check in to Doctor Who all week to unlock exclusive stickers!

Some series news:

Rumor has it that the new title credits have been inspired by a fan-made video!  Check out io9's:
This Fan-Made Opening is so Awesome Stephen Moffat Stole It

Is there any truth to this story?  I guess we will find out Saturday!

Curious about all the episode titles for the new series?  We've got them right here.

That's all for now, and remember-3 days to go!

Mini-con on June 21

Hello everyone!  Defensor Decimae is still in need of our help!  Please see the following:

As mentioned before, The Grandview Theatre needs an upgrade. It will cost them ten thousand dollars.  So far, they have just over seven thousand.

To help raise awareness and funds for said upgrade, we are planning on having a mini-con on June 21. The plan is to have performances and a live scavenger hunt with costumed sci-fi and fantasy characters walking around the city of Grandview with clues. Also, performances are planned, as is a silent auction.

I can NOT do this alone.

Yes. At this point, I am begging. I'm not proud when it comes to a promise to a friend on the line.

I need volunteers. Any fandom, ideally Doctor Who and/or other currently-popular fandoms. Cosplayers, roleplayers, gamers, fans. I need your help to make the performances, and especially the scavenger hunt happen. This is for the Grandview, a theatre that has been a friend to the geek community of Columbus.

If you are willing to act in short skits, give out clues on a scavenger hunt (if it happens), or have any items, skills, or services to contribute to the auction, please contact me at DefensorDecimae (at) gmail.com.  And please continue to spread the word.

Thank you again.

~DefensorDecimae
Fundraising update:  As of this post, the Grandview Theatre has now raised just over $8000.  Let's see if we can help them reach $10000!

The Grandview Theatre Needs Your Help!

From a fellow Whovian:
My dear fellow Doctor Who fans:

I send this today as a matter of some urgency.  The Grandview Theatre, which we all know for their free showings of Doctor Who (among others), as well as their delightful gatherings and mini-conventions, is in need of our assistance.
On July 1, ALL movie theaters in the country will be forced to to upgrade to HD format, or lose the ability to show *any* movies. This is not a hardship for the major cinema chains, but it could and will be fatal to smaller theatres such as our beloved Grandview.
The upgrade costs ten thousand dollars.  Yes, ten with three zeroes behind it.  They have raised about half of that.  They have about two weeks to raise the rest of it or they will more than likely be forced to close.
I'm opening the floor to discussions about how to help them.  I'll be in contact and planning mode with the Grandview in the near future.  In the meantime, here is a link to their plea:
http://www.grandviewtheatre.net/digital-upgrade.html
In Service,
DefensorDecimae
If you are able to help in any way, no matter how big or small, I am sure any donation would be greatly appreciated! The Grandview has been wonderfully gracious to us Whovians-let us return the favor and give them a helping hand.

Marcon 49!

Hello everyone!

Marcon is only a day away!  I was glancing through the Pocket Program and thought I would mention all the Doctor Who-themed panels for the weekend.

Keep in mind, times and dates may change!  Because I'm not 100% sure of the availability of the net at the hotel, I'm not sure if I will get to update you through this blog of any last-minute changes.

Friday
7:00 pm - Morrow - Do You Doctor Who
A make and take panel of things related to Doctor Who and round-table discussion of what we like/don't like about Doctor Who.

8:30 pm - Knox - Doctor Whose Line Is It Anyway?
The Confused Greenies of Players' Patchwork Theatre Company return for more sci-fi themed improv games hosted by Dalek Skarino!  The points don't matter-but the losers might get exterminated!

10:00 pm - Madison - How I Met Your Doctor
How did you end up succumbing to the lure of Doctor Who?  Which Doctor was your gateway?

Saturday
10:00 am - Union B - Doctor Who for a New (Re)Generation
Doctor Who is fifty years old, but has an increasing number of young fans all over the world who show their love by doing everything from wearing bow ties and ticking of sightings of the Silence, to tattoos and custom painted Converse shoes.  What is it that's drawing interest of folks who hadn't even been born yet when the show went on hiatus in the late '80s: the stories, the stars,  cable availability of the show, the hint of romance> or something else entirely?

11:30 am - Marion - Dottore Who & the Convenient Plot Device
The foolish denizens of Planet R-L-Kwin have modeled their society after zany comedic theatre.  But when their convoluted storylines fail to resolve, it means the Convenient Plot Device has been stolen!  Luckily Dottore Who is about to crashland on R-L-Kwin... how convenient is that?

Sunday
1:00 pm - Union B - The Companions of Doctor Who
In fifty years of television, the Doctor has almost never traveled alone.  His companions have served as avatars for the viewers, allowing the Doctor to remain slightly inscrutable while maintaining a connection to us.  Which companions have best fulfilled this role?

I think that's it-if you know of anything that is missing, please feel free to contact me or leave a comment.

Hope to see you at Marcon this weekend!

Post 400!!!

Welcome to our 400th post!  To celebrate, here are a few interesting items I came across on Facebook.

Rian Heist has started a kickstarter project  for Dalek Con 2014-Cincinnati's first Doctor Who convention!

Andrew thinks we need a Doctor Who themed bar, like like they have in Portland.  I agree! :)

Also, filming for Series 8 of Doctor Who continues and some clips of Capaldi and Coleman filming an episode have surfaced. (spoilers!)  Series 8 will air sometime this fall.

Don't forget our monthly meetup is tomorrow and Marcon is this weekend!

May Meetup!

A Subtle New Look!

Hello everyone!

Just a quick Marcon update-online pre-registration is now closed-however you can still pay at the door. :)  Marcon is only a few weeks away!

Also, I'd like to thank John for the new image in the header of our blog!  I'm still not satisfied with the formatting of the title and description of our blog-but Blogger's seemingly no-hassle blog template is rather strict when it comes to html formatting.  I was able to center the title of the blog without a problem, but when I centered the description of the blog, the font became smaller-and the only html tags that seem to work are 'small' and 'big' (no heading or font tags allowed).  Also, because the image is in the template in a widget, I can't seem to center it.  I may try adjusting it later, unless people like it! ;)

So what do you think?  Any comments/suggestions for the look of our blog are always welcome!
