welcome!

Welcome to our newest members, Chris and Vicki!! I hope you guys enjoy being a part of our little group!

Well, another MarCon has come and gone. It was great seeing everyone! I had a great time. I'll have to post a con report soon-I still need to upload the pictures from my camera. Hopefully it won't take me over a month like it did last year! ;)

Hope everyone is recovering nicely-I didn't plan anything yesterday so I could catch up on sleep-I failed, apparently. When I came into work today, the first thing one of my coworkers said was, 'you look tired!'. LOL. :)

Marcon 43!

Marcon 43 is here!!! Are you ready? :)

If you have a prize for Doctor Who Jeopardy, they will be collected in the British SciFi video room. Marcia has suggested getting the prizes there by 6:00pm on Friday, so Andrew, Jarrod, and Gene have time to go through them.

Our panels include:
Friday, 11:30pm: Torchwood: Jack is Back!
Saturday, 4:00pm: Doctor Who Jeopardy
Sunday, 11:30am: Doctor Who and the Quarry of Doom

There is also a Doctor Who panel being lead by the Fan GOH, Kevin Standlee:
Saturday, 2:30pm: Doctor Who Fan Vids.

We don't have a set time for the All-Ohio Doctor Who Summit, so we'll have to play this one by ear-keep checking the video room and around the con for more details.

Hope to see you all there!!!

Don't forget-there is no new Sarah Jane in the U.S., and no new Doctor Who in the U.S. AND the U.K. this weekend!

Steven Moffat to succeed Russell T. Davies

Direct from the horse's mouth:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2008/05_may/20/who.shtml

Moffat will be taking over the reigns from Davies starting in 2010 with the 5th series.

All I gotta say is AWESOME! I have loved every one of Steven Moffat's stories in the new series, and I think it's great that someone else who really loves the show is taking over. Check out Moffat's "Secret Plan" (11th paragraph, I think)-when I read that, I laughed out loud, and one of my coworkers came over to see what the heck I was laughing about.

Congrats, Steven-you deserve it!!

Welcome, and steering meeting today!

Welcome to our newest member, Selina!! I hope you and your daughter enjoy being a part of our little group!! :)

Next-Marcia has asked those who have potential prizes for the Doctor Who Jeopardy game to please post to the group, even if you have already mentioned it directly to her-this way she can get a handle on what we have and don't have-and everyone will be able to see what we do have, so there isn't an overload of people bringing small stuff from their stashes, or unneeded special purchases for top prizes. She has a post started in the Yahoo group, and thank you to those who have already replied!

Finally, last but not least: we have a steering meeting today at 7:00pm!!

From Andrew:
We will be having a steering meeting today!(Thursday) from 7pm at the Starbuck on Lane Avenue across from the Tommy's Pizza we have been meeting at. We're meeting there because of the Internet access they have.

Anyone who didn't already attend the Club meeting this past Saturday, but is on staff for the video room at Marcon, should attend. We will go over more details, on how it will be working. and discuss prizes for the Jeopardy Game.

We are also planning on a Ohio clubs steering meeting at the con, probably on Saturday. Jarrod will be looking into getting us a room to hold it in, and Gene will be moderating it. We plan on discussing where all three clubs are headed, and what we need to know for the Convention next year. the exact time has yet to be decided but it will probably be at 2:30 on Saturday. Watch this space for details.

Thanks, Andrew!

Also this Sunday on BBC7: Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf: Join Toby Hakoke on a Tardis trip through time as he charts the rise, fall and subsequent rise of a television legend. (Description from BBC7)

Posts of Interest...
I came across this discussion on my LiveJournal friend's list. Apparently the BBC has sent a notice to a fan in the U.K. that she had to remove her Doctor Who inspired knitting patterns that she was posting on her site for free. The boingboing and open rights group posts that are cited in this post are an interesting read (don't forget the comments!), as is this blog post by TechnoLlama. Crafters beware!

TAFN,
Happy Who watching (and listening)!!!

club news and May meeting

First of all, welcome to our newest club member, Colleen!!

Next, our monthly meeting is this Saturday, May 10th, from 5:00-9:00pm. We will start at the City Barbeque on Henderson for dinner, then head over to Andrew's for some video watching, discussion of episodes and other Club business. We will also be finalizing plans for Marcon.

Speaking of Marcon, Andrew has posted the Brit Video Room schedule on the Yahoo lists. For the video room staff: If you haven't already done so, please email Jarrod ASAP so he can finalize the staffing schedule. Let him know if you have any restrictions or other commitments that might conflict with the video room. We are trying to give everyone 4 hours in the room and 4 hours back up, in 2 hour blocks or so. Also, since the video room is 24 hours, volunteers for the night shifts are greatly appreciated! :)

We are going to have a table in the video room, so if you have any decorations or flyers to help promote Whodom that you would like to share, please send Andrew an email. :) Any help with prizes for the Jeopardy game would also be appreciated. :)

If you are on staff, we are asking that you attend either our meeting this Saturday, or our steering meeting on the 15th to go over Marcon stuff.

Marcon is only 2 weeks away!!!!

Short reviews: Partners in Crime/the Fires of Pompeii

Warning: episode spoilers ahead!

Partners in Crime
Welcome season 30!! ;)
Overall, I found Parnters in Crime to be a fun episode-I have to admit, I wasn't sure I'd like Donna as a full time companion, but this first episode helped put to rest any doubts I might have had. I loved the way Donna and the Doctor just kept missing each other-and their conversation through the windows was hysterical-especially after they got caught.

I have to admit, though-the pace was a little slow for a season opener-as my "partner in crime" Jerm put it-the pace was more like one you would find in a mid-season episode. Not that that's a bad thing-not every season opener has to be fast-paced-it was still good.

Hey, would you think I'm weird if I said I want an Adipose to put on my desk? ;)

I'm notorious for spoiling episodes for myself. This season I have been working really hard to ignore spoilers, and, for the most part, have been pretty successful. Jerm always give me a hard time for knowing what's going to happen ahead of time, and didn't believe me when I said I was completely spoiler free for this episode...until the end...there was no way I could've faked my reaction. Jerm's was pretty good too: "I don't think my jaw can drop any lower!!"

Fave quote of the episode: "You're not mating with me, Sunshine!!" :-D

The Fires of Pompeii
Ahhh, the perils of time traveling. Changing history-when does it matter? When doesn't it? What is considered a 'fixed position in time?' It's enough to make your head spin. When the Doctor was explaning this to Donna, the first thing I thought of was the scene from the Aztecs when the First Doctor told Barbara: "You can't rewrite history!! Not one line!!" Not something we see very often, but it's nice to see it resurface.

Prophecies, foreshadowing-enough here to make fandom run wild with theories and predicitions. Ahh, I love it. ;)

I've often wondered, with the TARDIS translating, what would happen if someone was to actually speak the language being spoken. Now, thanks to Donna being just as curious, we know! "Me no speak Celtic". Donna: "Celtic?" the Doctor: "Welsh". (nods to both the Masque of Mandragora(yay!) and the Christmas Invaison). Also, I think I watched Mary Poppins just a few too many times as a kid-when the earthquake hit and the father yelled, "Positions!" the first thing I thought of was the Banks family yelling "Posts!" everytime the Admiral would set off his cannon in the morning and evening. ;)

Since the first two episodes were a bit longer than the standard 45 minutes, SciFi had to cut out alot more than usual with the first two episodes. One of the scenes I remembered they cut out was the last scene from this episode. We see the family the Doctor rescued a year later, going about their lives as usual (the daughter looked much better now, and acting like a teenager). They still have to remember to give thanks to the household gods-and you see that the household gods are in the shape of the Doctor, Donna, and the TARDIS. ;)

Another enjoyable episode for me. So far, I think this season is getting off to a good start.
