Dark Water, Podcasts, Meetups, and Chicago Tardis!

Hello again!  I am so sorry-between Con on the Cob and Halloween, things have been so crazy I haven't had the chance to update the blog as much as I would like-so here are a few items for you!

First up-come join us TONIGHT at the Grandview Theatre for episode 11, Dark Water!

As always, the show starts at 9pm and is free.  Please consider purchasing items from the concessions stands as a thank you to the Grandview Theatre for their continuing support and giving us Doctor Who on the big screen for free! :)

Next up, in case you missed it, Jesse and Charles from Next Stop Everywhere are back with their 10th podcast featuring their thoughts on last week's episode, In the Forest of the Night:

Doctor Columbus Meet-up!!
Our November monthly meet-up is this coming Tuesday, November 4th at the Giant Eagle Market District in the Grandview Yard, starting at 7pm.   Come, join us!

WhoNA
John Takacs and the Ohio-Type-40 are planning a road trip to Doctor Who North America (Whona) warehouse in Indiana on November 14th-15th.   If anyone is interested in joining them, please see his Facebook post to the group.

Chicago Tardis
Speaking of road trips, Chicago Tardis is a month away!! Steve Pompa is still looking for anyone interested in carpooling to the event.  Be sure to check his most recent post on the Facebook page!

I hope you all had a safe and Happy Halloween!!!

A Scrapbook for Capaldi

Hi everyone!  Isa would like our help with a new project!  Here are the details from Isa herself:
Working on a project and I need input from as many people as possible.
One of my followers on Tumblr is creating a scrapbook that she is going to send to Capaldi for Christmas. She has asked for contributions from Whovians all over.
My submission is going to be a copy of the poster that was up at the Grandview for the premiere. I'd like for people to write messages on it: the front would be one or two words about what Doctor Who means to you, and the back would have short messages from fans directly to Capaldi.
I will have the poster with me at the next two episodes at the Grandview for people to write their messages and words on.
 Great idea, Isa!

If you would like to take part, arrive a little early (or stay a little late) so you have time to add your thoughts to the poster.  Thank you!

General Info-DWC Activites

First I must apologize for not responding to the comment made in my last post until just now. Blogger used to notify me by email that I had comments on my blog post-and it failed to do so.  I just now noticed it as I was getting ready to write another post.

The commenter asked if they needed to be a part of the Yahoo Group to help with the Grandview cleaning.  Of course not!  We welcome all Doctor Who fans. Your comment came up as anonymous, so whoever you are, I hope you were able to come and help out!

This is a public blog-if events are posted here, any Doctor Who fan can participate-we encourage you to become a member of either the Yahoo Group or the Facebook group, but it is not a requirement. (it does make communication easier, though!) ;)

I hope this information was helpful!

One Day!

One day until Peter Capaldi's debut as Twelve!!  Are you as excited as I am? :-D

Just a few things:

Doctor Who was mentioned on NPR this morning: check it out!

BBC America's Doctor Who takeover continues with a Doctor Who marathon-they are currently into season 6.

At 9 pm tonight debuts a new special: Doctor Who: Earth Conquest  This special follows Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on Doctor Who: World Tour, which sees them visiting seven cities across five continents in 12 days to publicize the upcoming season.  Woo!  Be sure to check it out-it *may* feature a project I have been a part of for a couple of years now, the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra. (no, I wasn't interviewed-but it's still exciting!) :-D

TOMORROW!  Are you ready?  Don't forget we will be meeting at the Grandview Theatre to help get ready for the premiere event tomorrow night, starting at 10 am.

The show starts at 8, but be sure to get there early!  Costumes are encouraged! (Be sure to take pictures-I'd love to share some of them on this blog!)

Want to see Doctor Who on the big screen again?  Fathom Events will be showing Deep Breath in theaters around the country Monday, August 25th.  Click here  for details! :)

DWC Events for Premiere week

Hey everyone!

This Tuesday, August 19th, we will be having a planning meeting at the Upper Arlington Market District starting at 7pm.  We will be meeting upstairs to discuss and plan for the Saturday premiere.

Saturday August 23rd-premiere day!  As discussed during our monthly gathering, we will be meeting at the Grandview Theatre at 10am to help them prepare for the premiere by cleaning and decorating (more details to follow!)

The premiere, Deep Breath, will air at 8 pm.  Be sure to arrive early enough for seats-it will be a full crowd!

As always this is a free show, so volunteering and supporting the theatre with concession purchases keeps the show going!

Hope to see you there!

August Monthly Meetup!

Hi everyone!   Don't forget our August monthly meet up will be this Tuesday, August 5th, from 7 to 9 pm at the Giant Eagle Market District at Kingsdale in Upper Arlington.

Steve and Isa will be there discussing all things Who, including plans for the season premiere on August 23rd at the Grandview Theatre! (Quick fundraising update-if you haven't heard already, Grandview reached (surpassed!) it's goal of $10,000 for the digital conversion!  Way to go, guys!)

Fathom Events will be showing Capaldi's premiere episode, Deep Breath, in theaters Monday, August 25th.
Ohio will have showings in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Cleveland Heights.  For a theater near you, check out the Fathom Events page.

In addition, Doctor Who will once again take over BBC America with a week full of specials!

I now leave you with the first full-length trailer of the new series!

Hope to see you Tuesday!

Post 400!!!

Welcome to our 400th post!  To celebrate, here are a few interesting items I came across on Facebook.

Rian Heist has started a kickstarter project  for Dalek Con 2014-Cincinnati's first Doctor Who convention!

Andrew thinks we need a Doctor Who themed bar, like like they have in Portland.  I agree! :)

Also, filming for Series 8 of Doctor Who continues and some clips of Capaldi and Coleman filming an episode have surfaced. (spoilers!)  Series 8 will air sometime this fall.

Don't forget our monthly meetup is tomorrow and Marcon is this weekend!

Happy 50th Doctor Who!!!!!

It's here!  It's here!!!!  The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who is here!!  Happy 50th, Doctor Who!!!!

The 50 Years of Doctor Who Extravaganza at the Grandview Theatre starts at 11 am!!!

For folks who are staying in, I hope you are enjoying the third part of the Eleventh Doctor marathon on BBC America! (Don't forget to check into GetGlue to earn multiple stickers throughout the day!)

The Day of the Doctor starts at 2:50 pm ET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tune in early for the live preview show on BBC America starting at 2:30 pm!   Encores at 7 & 11 pm.

The Graham Norton Show airs at 10 pm, with guests Matt Smith and David Tennant!

Think the fun ends at midnight?  Well, you would be wrong!  Check out the best of Matt Smith Marathon on BBC America, followed by The Doctors Revisited: The Eleventh Doctor.

Then wrap it all up Monday night with 3-D (and 2-D!) screenings across America!

I've been a fan of Orbital for years.  When I found out they did a remix of the Doctor Who theme for the 40th anniversary, I was totally jazzed (it's featured on their album, The Altogether).  For the 50th anniversary, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital decided to share a remix of Doctor Who and the Sea Devils that he did for a Doctor Who album of mixes that was sadly never made.  Check it out here on SoundCloud!

Sea Devils Remix
(Personally, I hope they decide to release a cd of Doctor Who remixes-that would be AWESOME!)

Enjoy the 50th!  If you're doing something special, take pictures so I can share them on the blog!

Happy 50th, Doctor Who!

ONE DAY.

One day, folks! ONE DAY! :-D

The BBC has released a second prequel online-check out The Last Day:

Also, check out Google.ca or Google.uk today- but be sure you have a lot of time on your hands! ;-)

Don't forget the Eleventh Doctor marathon continues on BBC America! Plus two new specials:

Doctor Who: Explained An all-new special, Doctor Who Explained, explores the mysterious and two-hearted alien who is the Doctor. Through exclusive interviews with principal cast members from the show’s 50-year history, including actors who have played the Doctor: Matt Smith, David Tennant, Peter Davison, and Tom Baker as well as actors who have played companions: Jenna Coleman, Karen Gillan, and Freema Agyeman, viewers get an insight to what happens behind-the-scenes of the award-winning sci-fi show. Starts at 8 pm ET

An Adventure in Space and Time: What do you get when you mix C.S. Lewis with H.G. Wells, and sprinkle in a bit of Father Christmas? An alien Time Lord exploring space and time in a Police Box spaceship called the “TARDIS” (Time And Relative Dimension in Space). Written by Mark Gatiss, the BBC AMERICA co-production, the film stars David Bradley (the First Doctor, William Hartnell), Brian Cox (BBC Head of Drama, Sydney Newman), Jessica Raine (Producer, Verity Lambert) and Sacha Dhawan (Director, Waris Hussein). An unlikely trio of misfits set out to create a genre series that all ages would love. William ‘Bill’ Hartnell, displeased with his career, was presented with a chance to break out of the hard-man roles he’d become known for. And with the instincts of first time producer, Verity Lambert and first time director, Waris Hussein, the Doctor was born. As the success of the show grew, William went from unhappy curmudgeon to beloved television star who relished his career resurgence and found a new lease on life. But all good things come to an end. How will Bill face leaving behind the part that has made him a hero to millions of children? And can the show survive without him? Journey back fifty years through space and time to witness the exciting beginning and untimely end of the First Doctor in this touching drama.

And last, but not least! The 50 Years of Doctor Who Extravaganza starts tomorrow at 11 am at the Grandview Theatre!!!!
