Conventions, Improv, and Awards

I realize not everyone is a member of the group on Facebook, but I thought I might share a few items of interest.

Chicago Tardis is next month!!  Steve Pompa is wondering if anyone is interested in carpooling. :)  Check out Chicago Tardis for more information about the convention (and check out the guest list!).  If you are interested in carpooling, check out Steve's thread on the Facebook page.

The Wayward Saints recently performed "Companion Search" at the Grandview Theatre before Doctor Who.  Did you enjoy their performance?  If you did and thought to yourself, 'that might be fun', you're in luck! The Wayward Saints are always looking for new recruits. If you, or someone you know-would like to join them, please send an email to DefensorDecimae[at]gmail[dot]com. :-)

In Who news- An Adventure in Time and Space has been nominated for the International Emmy for a TV movie/mini series!  Fantastic! :-D

The ceremony takes place on the 24th of November at the New York Hilton Hotel.

Welcome to our 400th post!  To celebrate, here are a few interesting items I came across on Facebook.

Rian Heist has started a kickstarter project  for Dalek Con 2014-Cincinnati's first Doctor Who convention!

Andrew thinks we need a Doctor Who themed bar, like like they have in Portland.  I agree! :)

Also, filming for Series 8 of Doctor Who continues and some clips of Capaldi and Coleman filming an episode have surfaced. (spoilers!)  Series 8 will air sometime this fall.

Don't forget our monthly meetup is tomorrow and Marcon is this weekend!

R.I.P. Caroline John (1940-2012)

The BBC announced this morning of the passing of Caroline John earlier this month, known to the Whouniverse as Liz Shaw, the Third Doctor's first companion.

Caroline John, 1940-2012

I always liked Liz Shaw-she was always one of my top 5 favorite companions.  I was bummed when she was only in Who for one season, and was tickled to death with the character name drop in The Sarah Jane Adventures. In fact, after Katy Manning did her guest stint in The Death of the Doctor, I was secretly hoping that they would find a way to bring Liz Shaw's character into Sarah Jane's world.  All three of Pertwee's companions on SJA? That would've been awesome!

I think one of my favorite Liz Shaw moments would be in her first story, Spearhead from Space, when she looked at the Brigadier, cocked an eyebrow and said 'what? You investigate little green men?' (ok, I'm summing that up badly, but the look on her face was priceless!)

What was your favorite Liz Shaw moment?

Rest in peace, Caroline.

RIP Elisabeth Sladen

I just heard the news a few hours ago-right now I am at a loss for words.

http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2011/04/dwn190411204508-elisabeth-sladen-1948.html

I will probably be writing up a tribute of my own sometime within the next few days. Andrew is creating a video tribute which he is planning to show during the "Look Behind You!" party on Saturday.

Farwell, Sarah Jane.

December Steering Meeting!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Don't forget our December steering meeting will be this Thursday, December 2nd from 7-9pm. It looks like we'll be back at the Giant Eagle Market District at Kingsdale in Upper Arlington. (for directions and contact info, be sure to check the DWC Yahoo list)

Well, last week was Doctor Who's 47th anniversary. Already there are ramblings about how to celebrate the Golden anniversary. BBC News just published an article this morning-apparently Sylvester McCoy would be very interested in returning for a multi-doctor episode for the big 5-0. Why not? They did one for the 10th and 25th anniversaries. Personally, I would love to see Paul McGann as well. :) What are your thoughts?

Hope to see you on Thursday!

Oh! Just a reminder-for anyone who went to Chicago Tardis this past weekend-if you took any pictures that you would like to share on this blog, please contact me! Thanks!!

Steven Moffat to succeed Russell T. Davies

Direct from the horse's mouth:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2008/05_may/20/who.shtml

Moffat will be taking over the reigns from Davies starting in 2010 with the 5th series.

All I gotta say is AWESOME! I have loved every one of Steven Moffat's stories in the new series, and I think it's great that someone else who really loves the show is taking over. Check out Moffat's "Secret Plan" (11th paragraph, I think)-when I read that, I laughed out loud, and one of my coworkers came over to see what the heck I was laughing about.

Congrats, Steven-you deserve it!!

Also, by now I'm sure most of you have heard that the commentary track for the last episode of series 3 is different on the Region 1 dvds. Our set has commentary by the producers, whereas the UK set has the original commentary by David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, and John Barrowman. Currently, BBC America is making the original commentary available for download:
http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/123/commentary.jsp It's about a 47MB download. (Thanks Mreen, for the link!!!)
