It's time!! (and happy 100!)

Ahh, the wait is finally over for our friends in the U.K.-series 3 (season 29!) starts tonight!

This post also marks the Idiot's Lantern's 100th post! Yay! :)

Series 3/Season 29 in the U.K.
Saturdays, 7pm (GMT) on BBC One

Current episode:
1. Smith and Jones

Doctor Who has earned nominations for to BAFTA Television Craft Awards. Winners will be announced April 22nd, 2007. [BBC link]

Speaking of award nominations-Neil Gaiman called it last year when he predicted that Girl in the Fireplace would be nominated for a Hugo award. Wait to go, Neil! ;) That's not the only Who episode to be nominated. School Reunion *(yay!!)* and Army of Ghosts/Doomsday have also been nominated in the 'Dramatic Presentation: Shortform' category. They are up against an episode from Battlestar Galactica and Stargate: SG-1
You can find the list for all the Hugo nominations here.

Doctor Who marathon

Whether it's in honor of the third series starting up in the U.K. this Saturday, or just a mere coincidence, the SciFi Channel is having a Doctor Who marathon tomorrow (Friday) at 8:30am, starting with the series one episode, the Empty Child and running through New Earth. This also includes the 90 minute special, the Christmas Invasion.

It looks like SciFi will be having another Who marathon around May 16th (although there are no details yet since it's a little too far in advance for their schedule.)

Speaking of the new series in the U.K., there is a new trailer out for Smith and Jones, although it's currently only available to Sky Digital and Virgin Media customers in the U.K., the Doctor Who page promises to have it on the site very soon. :) [BBC link]

Something to ponder...

-20 gallons of latex rubber
-40 gallons of silicon rubber
-Four tonnes of clay
-10 litres of prosthetic adherent
-Three sets of prosthetic dentures

So what is all this? It's the amount of 'make-up' that was required to make the series three monsters of Doctor Who. Wow!

That was just an interesting tidbit on the side of a really cool article about new companion Martha Jones. From what I've read, she seems really cool-and I can't wait to meet her in the new series.
Meet Martha

Doctor Who news

Ah-ha! It's official! Series 3 will start on Saturday March 31st on BBC One. Originally Dreamcast had reported it starting on the 24th, but apparently the BBC had changed it's mind and the magazine didn't have a chance to change the date before it went to press. [Outpost Gallifrey link]

Speaking of series 3, there have been some episode title updates as well. Going by titles alone, I'd have to say that episode 4 is currently the one I'm looking forward to the most so far. ;) [Outpost Gallifrey link]

Classic and current series dvds! (in the UK) The Runaway Bride will be released on dvd on April 2nd. It will also include Music and Monsters the Doctor Who Confidential special. Volume 3.1 will be released sometime after the debut of Series 3. 3.2 is speculated to be released sometime in May.

The Seventh Doctor story, Survival will be released on April 16th, and May 28th will see the release of the Tom Baker's first story, Robot. Timelash (a Sixth Doctor story), will be released on June 25th.

I do hope that Region 1 versions of the classic series will not be far behind Region 2. Especially for Robot. I was just watching it the other day and noticed my copy is getting kind of worn. I said to myself, 'I wonder when this is coming out on dvd...' Someone must have heard me! LOL. ;) I suspect Region 1 dvds of the third series won't be released until after it airs on SciFi this summer. [unitnews link]

Doctor Who on YouTube! (official and legal!) BBC and BBC Worldwide have struck a deal with YouTube to display promotional material for programs such as Doctor Who and Life on Mars. The best thing about this is that it's all free. I think it's worth checking out. :) Because I read it here first: [unitnews link]
